InSight Deployment Process

Since the beginning days of Xenegrade, customers have often inquired about ad hoc reporting capabilities.  With this in mind, Xenegrade began the process several years ago to create an ad hoc reporting system integrated into XenDirect.  Finally, in late 2015, we began in the development process for InSight and deployed InSight in January 2017.  In November 2017, InSight 2 replaced the original InSight 1 installation

Following are the changes from InSight 1 to InSight 2.

  • Report thumbnail icons are no longer used.

  • InSight Menu is more streamlined.
  • Report lists display brief descriptions with each report.
  • InSight 2 BETA users will no longer see the InSight 2 menu option.
  • InSight menu option automatically launches InSight version 2.
  • InSight version 1 will no longer be available.
  • The prior Report menu (Crystal Reports) remains as is without changes.
  • Report filters work in a slightly different manner.
  • Knowledgebase articles will be updated to reflect version 2.
  • Export options are enhanced.
  • Ability to purchase Pro level users begins.
  • InSight 1 reports have been rebuilt from scratch for the revised InSight 2 architecture.
  • Additional data has been added to some of the available reporting tables.
  • Reports and Dashboards are separated into different areas.
  • Pro users have the ability to create report templates.
  • Pro users can create and manage local reporting categories.
  • Report design process for Pro users is significantly enhanced.

Deployment Schedule

Following is the scheduled timeline of events for the deployment of InSight.  This schedule is subject to change based on circumstances, needs, and available resources.

Phase 1

  • January - March 2017.
  • InSight placed in BETA mode.
  • Access to InSight restricted to Essential level users only.
  • All prior existing reports, snapshots, dashboards, and reporting features remain available in XenDirect.
  • All prior custom reports and reporting features remain available in XenDirect.
  • All prior user created reports remain available in XenDirect.

Phase 2

  • November 2017: InSight 2 is released.
  • Pro level upgrades are enabled and available.
  • Beta Pro users will maintain design access through December 31, 2017.
  • 2018: Pro online training courses become available.
  • 2019: Knowledgebase pages for Pro features becomes available.
  • 2019: Embedded reports begin the transformation to InSight version reports. Embedded reports are the reports that are run from outside the xenDirect report menu such as receipts and invoices.  Advanced notice of these transformations will be posted in the News section of the support center and the Updates menu within XenDirect.
  • All other prior existing reports, snapshots, dashboards, and reporting features remain available in XenDirect.
  • All prior custom reports and reporting features remain available in XenDirect.
  • All prior user created reports remain available in XenDirect.

Phase 3

  • April 2019: New Admin module projected release.
  • InSight 3 is released.
  • Embedded reports, dashboards, and snapshots complete the transformation process to InSight version reports.
  • Prior Crystal reports, snapshot pages, and dashboards are available through the Classic XenDirect Admin module, but 2019 XenDirect Admin module will not contain any versions of Crystal reports.  Users will be able to access the Classic XenDirect Admin module through December 2019.
  • All other prior existing reports and reporting features remain available in the Classic XenDirect Admin module.
  • All prior custom reports and reporting features remain available in the Classic XenDirect Admin module.  Xenegrade will be reporogramming custom paid reports into InSight 2 and 3.
  • All prior user created reports remain available in the Classic XenDirect Admin module.  During this phase, a review of all existing custom and user-created reports will be completed and a customer dialogue initiated regarding these reports.  The desired outcome of the dialogue is to determine the fate of the custom and user-created reports and a timeline to replace the report with an InSight version before the end of 2019.
  • The process to redesign the WebReg module begins including embedded elements of InSight for clients.

Phase 4

  • January 2020: The process to redesign the QuickTools module begins including embedded elements of InSight for clients.


Submitting InSight Issues

Issues related to InSight should be submitted via the online Support Center ticket system in the same manner as any XenDirect issue.  Issue fixes and relevant modifications will be posted in the XenDirect Updates menu as usual.

Please provide as much detail as possible including:

  • InSight menu category and report name. 
  • If the issue is related to a comparison between a prior version report and a new InSight report, provide both report names.
  • Filters and related parameter values used.
  • Results of any testing such as if the report works or does not work for other users, other computers, or other browsers.
  • The report version number.  The version number displays in the report footer, if available.
  • Computer platform being used: Windows or Mac.
  • Browser and version being used.
