Enable ActiveX Printing

Automatic ActiveX Installation
For some browsers, like Internet Explorer, ActiveX downloading must be enabled in order to print from the XenDirect preview screen. This download process only needs to be performed once per computer station. The download is automatic if the browser settings are correct.

Requirements:

  • You must be using Internet Explorer browser version 6.0 or higher and have the latest updates installed. Other browsers that require ActiveX may work, but are not supported with XenDirect.  Some browsers do not use ActiveX for printing.
  • You must be logged into Windows as a user with administrative permissions.

To enable ActiveX download:

  • Step 1: With your internet browser open, go to the menu option Tools > Internet Options
  • Step 2: Go to the Security tab
  • Step 3: Click the Custom Level button
  • Step 4: Go to the group titled "ActiveX controls and plug-ins"
  • Step 5: Make sure the settings under this category are either "enabled" or "prompt". Do not leave any of the options as "disabled".
  • Step 6: Click OK
  • Step 7: Click OK
  • Step 8: Preview and print a report while logged into XenDirect. The ActiveX download will occur automatically. If your settings are set to "prompt", you will receive a download prompt requesting your approval to install the ActiveX.  Be patient while the install occurs.

Special Circumstances for Internet Explorer
It is possible that if you have upgraded your browser version, an existing DLL may have to be deleted to make the above automated ActiveX installation operate correctly.

  • Step 1: With your internet browser open, go to the menu option Tools > Internet Options
  • Step 2: On the general tab, go to Browsing History section, and click Settings
  • Step 3: From the resulting pop-up window, click View Objects
  • Step 4: You will see a list of installations that have occurred for your browser.
  • Step 5: Locate in the list the file that contains "Print Control" or "Crystal Print Control" or a similar name
  • Step 6: Highlight and delete that file.  Approve any prompts for this delete.
  • Step 7: Close the pop-up window containing the list
  • Step 8: Click OK to close the Temporary Internet Files window
  • Step 9: Click OK to close the Internet Option window
  • Step 10: Preview and print a report while logged into XenDirect. The ActiveX download will occur automatically. If your settings are set to "prompt", you will receive a download prompt requesting your approval to install the ActiveX.  Be patient while the install occurs.
  • Step 11:  This step may not always be required, but does not hurt to complete.  Add both of the following URLS to the browser’s Trusted Sites:  http://devreports1.xenegrade.com and http://launch.xenegrade.com
