Adding Images to InSight Reports

Adding an image, such as a logo, to an InSight report helps improve your brand, make reports easily identifiable, increase interest, and add credibility.

  • Images can be added to reports built by Pro users.  XenDirect pre-built reports do not support adding images.  However, a Pro user can copy a pre-built report and add an image to the copy.
  • Images can be added to the report header section of a report or to form parts using an HTML tag.  In both cases, the image must be saved to a server location that is accessible via a URL.  Uploaded images can be used in email templates using the same HTML URL method.
  • Users can save images within XenDirect or use an image URL from their own server.

Uploading an Image Within XenDirect

Pro users can use an image URL from their own servers.  However, if needed, images can be uploaded into XenDirect for use within InSight reports.

To upload an image, go to Admin/Security > Settings > Web Images.

  • Click the [New Branch Image] buttont.
  • Title:  The title field is required, but the value is for reference only and not used in the image display.
  • Order:  Order is not relevant of URL images.
  • Location: Set the value to "URL".  Do not leave the value set to "WebReg".
  • Type:  This will always be "Image".
  • Click [Create] and [Edit] the image.
  • Image Upload:  Use the [Choose a File] button to upload an image file.  Only *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.gif, *.png, and *.pjpeg files can be uploaded.  Mac users may need to open and save certain image files using a PC-based image software application to obtain an uploadable format.  Note that once the image has been uploaded and saved, the file name may be altered.
  • Images should be of quality and size that suits the user.  If using the image in the report header section of an InSight report, the dimensions of the file must match the final display size as the image file is not sizable within the report.  For images using the HTML tag, HTML can be used to resize the image displayed in the report.
  • Location: Set the value to "URL".  Do not leave the value set to "WebReg".
  • Save the image record.
  • Note that once the image has been uploaded and saved, the user can obtain the full image URL by opening the record in edit mode.  Highlight the URL and use the keyboard copy command to copy the URL to the clipboard.

Adding an Image to the Report Header Section

  • Open the InSight report desired in the design view.
  • Click on the [Add Item] button in the Report Header section.
  • Click the New button in the upper right corner of the Branch view screen.
  • On the Add Item popup, select Image and click OK.
  • An image locator box will display in the Report Header section.  Click the box to access the field properties.
  • In the Field Properties settings, enter the URL for the image.
  • Note that you can change the size of the image by dragging the box edges.  However, the box will snap to the grid and may not maintain the correct proportions.  You can also click and drag the image box to move the image to another location in the Report Header.
  • Save the report.

Adding an Image to a Form Part Using HTML

Using this method requires experience with HTML.

  • Open the InSight report desired in the design view.
  • Go to Configuration Mode for the Form Part desired.
  • Go to the HTML tab.
  • Using the HTML tag and the image URL, place the image at the location desired.  Image sizing is supported using the HMTL sizing commands.
  • Save the report.
