Overview of Coursework

Coursework in XenDirect enables instructors to assign and manage tasks such as assignments, exams, and extra credit. This feature also serves as a gradebook, allowing instructors to track student progress throughout the course.

Once coursework is created, users can add it to clients via Main Menu → Clients → Coursework.

Key Coursework Elements:

    • This is the parent record of all coursework records for a specific subject.
    • Required Field: The Subject field must be filled in to create coursework.
    • Grouping: Optional field to categorize coursework, such as Semester 1, Term 1, etc.
    • Format: Defines how the subject is offered (e.g., online, in-person).
    • Subject Hours: Total number of hours for the subject.

How Weighting Works

Weighting allows you to assign percentages to coursework categories. Coursework Categories are the inner most level of the Coursework levels. Weighting is optional.

Subject > Groups > Categories

Configuring Coursework Weighting

  • To Add or Edit Coursework Weighting:
    1. Navigate to the Coursework section within the appropriate Subject.
    2. Click on the Coursework field to enter or adjust the percentage weighting.
    3. Ensure that the sum of all Coursework Weighting within the Subject totals 100%.

Note:

  • To avoid calculation errors, ensure that:
    • Every Category weighting sums to 100%.
    • Every Group has at least one of every Category.
    • Every Subject has at least one of every Grouping.
  • Grades for Grouping calculate as Sum(Category Average*Weighting).
  • Grades for Subjects calculate as Grouping Average.
  • Final Grade calculate as Subject Average, then rounded to first decimal.

Conclusion

The Coursework feature in XenDirect helps instructors manage, assign, and grade coursework for their students. By properly using Weighting and Subject Grouping, instructors can accurately track student progress and ensure that grades reflect the importance of each task.
