Sign In / Sign Out

XenDirect user sign-ins are named licenses with one user per license sign-in at any one time.  If a user name signs in while the user name is in use by another user, the original user has signed off the system and the new user is signed in.  This prevents user sign-in issues when a user does not sign out properly and then attempts to sign in at a different location.

Notes

  • The XenDirect Sign In screen may differ based on the customer setup and version.
  • XenDirect contains an automatic sign-out feature that is set by the system administrator.  If your XenDirect sign-in remains inactive for the number of minutes set in this feature, you will be automatically signed out when the amount of inactive time reaches the time-out threshold set in the Organization Profile. The maximum value is 60 minutes.
    • The industry norm is 20 to 30 minutes and no option to set a custom value.
  • If you forget your password, your system administrator can create a new username, but cannot set a new password for you. Only you can set your password.
  • Failed sign-in messages will display to assist the user. However, the message is not detailed enough to assist someone attempting to breach the system.
  • If a user name signs in from a second location that is already signed in, the new user sign-in request will receive a prompt to cancel or automatically sign out the initial user with the same user name. The new sign-in request must make a choice to continue to sign in or sign out. If the new user selects the "Stay Signed In Here" option, the other user is signed out.
  • To speed the sign in process, create a shortcut on your desktop directly to the URL or add the URL to your web favorites list.
  • Consider changing your password every 3-6 months as a protection measure. Changing your password helps reduce the possibility that someone else could obtain and use your sign-in credentials.
  • For additional security, consider using the Two Factor Authentication feature.
  • XenDirect displays best when your monitor is set to a screen resolution with a minimum value of 1024 X 768. Note that all monitors cannot display at this resolution.

Using Multiple Browsers or Browser Tabs

When attempting to use XenDirect on multiple browsers or multiple tabs on the same browser, there are possible side effects.

  • Same user logs into two different computers at the same time regardless of browser
    • One user will most likely be logged out as this scenario violates code of a user name being used more than once at a time.
  • Same user logs into two different browsers at the same time on the same computer
    • This may work without issue even if the user logs out of one of the browsers. Although this is not tested, there could be some side effects but it may behave normally.
  • Same user logs in on a second tab of the same browser
    • This can work except for one major action. If the user logs out of one tab, they are also logged out of the other tab. However, the user won't see that they are logged out and as they try to perform an action of some type, errors will occur as they are not truly logged in.

Suggestion: If a user wants to use a second tab of the same browser, copy the URL from the logged in tab and paste into another tab. Perform any actions desired, but when leaving tab 2 just close the tab. Don't sign out of tab 2 and try to use tab 1. Then when done in tab 1, now is the time to log out.
