Adding Address Field Values

With release 3.5.04.03, the process for entering address fields has changed to more easily handle non-US addresses. By following the steps outlined below, the process of entering the variations of cities, states, and postal codes is more structured. This revised process accounts for these variations:

  • Not all countries use postal codes. XenDirect will still record a postal code value, such as "1" as a placeholder.
  • Countries vary on the use of states. XenDirect uses that term even if a country uses a term such as province, district, territory, or other terminology to represent an area that is not a city. Some countries do not use this value, but XenDirect will still record a placeholder.

Note: In an upcoming release, a "lookup" option is being added to speed up the data entry process for addresses.

Entering Address Fields

  • Enter Country first
    • You will notice that the country field is now first in the list of address fields. Once the country is selected, the city, state, and postal code fields change based on the country.
    • Some of these fields may disappear based on the country selected.
    • The select fields after the two street address fields will now display options based on that country. Select the appropriate field values.
  • Save the record
    • During the record save process, the combination of city, state, and postal code are saved to the Postal Code table if the combination does not already exist.
    • The future "lookup" feature will pull from these existing postal code combinations.

Replacing Duplicates and Incorrect Postal Code Combinations

Until such time that XenDirect has a full address lookup feature, there is a possibility that users and clients will enter incorrect and duplicate city, state, and postal code combinations. To clean up the postal code list and reduce the duplicate and incorrect records, consider using one or more of the available Replace workflow functions.
